Communication and radar systems are still operated separately today, although from a technical point of view they have many things in common, such as in the area of signal processing and system architecture. This leads to an inefficient overall solution: Due to the double demand for hardware resources, the total energy consumption increases in addition to the investment costs.

In addition, radar systems in mobile applications today often operate independently of each other, which can lead to mutual interference and reduced performance. At the same time, a high synergy potential remains untapped, such as through closer collaboration between different radar systems and the establishment of multi-static radars.

The goal of 6G-ICAS4Mobility is to more closely link and integrate the previously separate communication and acquisition functions. The focus is on automotive and aerial drone applications.

Merantix Momentum enables the recognition of objects and the reconstruction of scene information targeted in the project only through the use of machine learning methods in a quality that is necessary for use in industrial environments. Robust recognition and classification methods are particularly important for future technologies that will be used in autonomous driving vehicles and aerial drones.

The focus of Merantix Momentum's work within the project is on the application of Deep Learning to achieve self-supervised scene reconstruction and odometry based on radar information. The goal for Merantix Momentum is to use this as a basis to develop novel methods that allow detection and classification based on radar data.
