The rapid development of the energy market in recent years presents SMEs with new challenges. At the same time, companies have a large number of unused flexibilities in their production processes to exploit dynamic electricity prices and avoid peak loads.

FlexGUIde aims to provide SMEs with low-threshold access to the energy market of the future through the development and application of communication technologies and methods of digitalization and artificial intelligence. Solutions are being developed along the entire value chain to enable medium-sized industrial companies to identify and implement flexibility measures for local energy optimization.

In practice, a cost-effective and data-secure wireless information and communication technology for data acquisition and control is being developed and assistance software tools are being developed. These are to identify local energy sources and make them flexibly usable. Factory-internal data, external market signals and artificial intelligence (AI) and mathematical optimization methods are used for optimization.

Solution

Results & effects

Merantix Momentum contributes to FlexGUIde's success with expertise in machine learning and extensive experience in MLOps infrastructure development. As part of the collaboration with Fraunhofer IPA and the Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production at the University of Stuttgart, Merantix Momentum is developing new methods for predicting and planning energy consumption. At the same time, an infrastructure is being developed to make the developed methods available to industrial partners with high reliability.

The developments are tested and implemented in the research project in three real laboratories. It is important to incorporate feedback from industry partners into ongoing development. However, new strategies for optimizing energy and cost efficiency in factories are also being developed in FlexGUIde. The research project aims to set the course for a more sustainable future and enable companies to future-proof their operations.
