The problem
The project
As a leading international company in optical semiconductor manufacturing, ams OSRAM has been using artificial intelligence in products and processes for years. Spread across various divisions and countries, teams of AI experts develop and operate data-driven solutions that support optical quality inspection processes in manufacturing, for example.
In 2022, ams OSRAM set itself the goal of expanding its AI strategy, fully exploiting the transformative potential of the technology and thus expanding its existing competitive advantage. The project focused on the development and sustainable introduction of processes and methods for the systematic identification, validation, implementation and operationalization of AI applications in the company. In addition to strengthening synergies between the technical teams, there was a particular need for greater involvement of domain experts for the development of practical, relevant use cases.
The solution
Our contribution
In close collaboration with an interdisciplinary, international project team on the part of the customer, Merantix Momentum developed a cross-divisional AI strategy and oversaw its operationalization. To control and measure the success of the company-wide AI projects, an innovation funnel with clearly defined decision points was introduced to systematically identify and evaluate economic and technical risks at an early stage.
The introduction of proven methodologies, relevant KPIs, and customized processes and roles along the funnel paved the way from vision to practice. From large-scale AI training to technical sparring for specific AI use cases, Merantix Momentum supported ams OSRAM in realizing its AI strategy: Today, the "AI Center of Excellence" is a central pillar for managing and scaling AI projects at ams OSRAM and thus contributes to the company's success.
