The challenge

In 2022, ams OSRAM set the goal of expanding its AI strategy, fully exploiting the transformative potential of the technology and thus expanding its existing competitive advantage. The project focused on the development and sustainable introduction of processes and methods for the systematic identification, validation, implementation and operationalization of AI applications in the company. In addition to strengthening synergies between the decentralized technical teams, there was a particular need for greater involvement of domain experts for the development of practical, relevant use cases. As part of the project, semiconductor experts, managers, and data scientists from various international divisions joined forces to streamline the companies’ AI efforts in collaboration with Merantix Momentum.

Solution

In close collaboration with an interdisciplinary, international team from ams OSRAM, Merantix Momentum developed a comprehensive, cross-divisional AI strategy and managed its implementation. To monitor and evaluate the success of company-wide AI projects, an innovation funnel with clearly defined decision points was established. This funnel helped systematically identify and assess economic and technical risks early on.

The implementation of proven methodologies, relevant KPIs, tailored processes, and roles along the funnel facilitated the transition from vision to practice. From extensive AI training to technical sparring on specific AI use cases, Merantix Momentum aided ams OSRAM in executing its AI strategy effectively.

Today, the "AI Center of Excellence" at ams OSRAM stands as a central entity for overseeing and scaling AI projects, significantly contributing to the company’s ongoing success.

Results & effects

The collaboration between ams OSRAM and Merantix Momentum has established a robust foundation for AI integration across the company. The project successfully accelerated the establishment of an operational AI Center of Excellence at ams OSRAM, achieving full functionality within just three months from project initiation.
